Introduction

It is possible to setup and use different alarm functionalities on some handsets from the M-series.

  • If you are using an M70, M80 and M90, you can use the button on top of the handset to trigger and alarm.'



  • If you are using an M85 handset, you can configure some more alarm sensors:

    • Alarm Button
    • Man Down
    • No Movement
    • Running
    • Pull Cord


To setup an alarm, you would need to create an alarm profile and to assign that to the headset from the base station web interface, following the steps below.



Create an alarm profile

  1. Access the "Alarm" menu on the base station web interface

  2. You can assign the name to the Profile Alias as you prefer

  3. You can set the Alarm Type you want to use (remember, for the M70, M80 and M90 the only one that can be used is Alarm Button)

  4. You can set the Alarm Signal to call or message, the call can be for each handset to any number, the message needs to be to another Snom DECT handset

  5. You can set and choose more options, that are described in detail below.

  6. Click on "Save" to save the current configuration



Alarm options

  1. Stop Alarm from Handset: if enabled, allows the user to stop the alarm from the handset after being triggered

  2. Stop Pre-Alarm from Handset: if enabled, allows the user to stop the alarm from the handset after being triggered and while waiting for the pre-alarm delay (more info below)

  3. Howling: if enabled, the handset will use a loud ringtone when the alarm has been triggered (this could help identify the handset, making it easier to find the user that triggered the alarm), if disabled the handset will send the call/message to give out the alarm but stay silent

  4. Pre-alarm delay: defines number of seconds from the moment the alarm is triggered until it fires (so, if I press the alarm button for example, the alarm is being triggered immediately but the handset will wait some seconds before start a call)

  5. Trigger delay: defines the number of seconds from the moment the handset's alarm triggering event happens until the handset actually triggers the alarm (so, if I press the alarm button for example, the alarm isn't being triggered immediately but I need to keep the button pressed for some second)


To clarify the last two with some examples (in the following examples we are talking about pressing the alarm button, but it would be the same with any alarm configured): 

  • if the pre-alarm is set to 5 seconds and the trigger is set to 0, when I press the button the alarm has been triggered already, and after 5 seconds the call will start
    In these 5 seconds I can stop the alarm from the handset (the alarm is showed on the handset display) if the "Stop Pre-Alarm from Handset" option is enabled

  • if the pre-alarm is set to 0 and the trigger to 5 seconds, when I press the alarm button the alarm isn't triggered instantly but I will need to keep the button pressed for 5 seconds before it is triggered
    Once it has been triggered, the call will start instantly since the pre-alarm is set to 0

  • if the pre alarm is set to 3 and the trigger is set to 5 seconds, I will need to keep the button pressed for 5 seconds and the alarm will be triggered, but after that I will have 3 more seconds to wait before the call starts since there is a pre-alarm delay



Handset configuration

  1. To setup the handset with the alarm profile, you need to get into the Extensions page and into the handset IPEI

  2. From here, you can select which SIP Alarm Line the handset will use to send out the alarm 



  3. You need to set which Alarm Number you want the alarm to be sent out to (an internal number if it's a message, any number if it's a call)

  4. You need to assign an Alarm Profile to the handset, so that it will use that one as defined before (remember, for the M70, M80 and M90 the only one that can be used is Alarm Button)

  5. Click on "Save" to save the current configuration

Keep in mind

  • The alarm needs some time to be triggered, even with all the delays set to "0", so allow the handset some seconds to actually send out the alarm after you've triggered it
  • If you are not seeing some of the options, please upgrade your firmware on the base station(s) and handset(s)
  • The M85 supports all the alarm functionalities starting with the hardware version R2D, M85 handsets with hardware versions lower than R2D only support the alarm button
