Smart Labels is a new and intelligent way to label function keys. Currently, Smart Labels are available for D735/D335/D717 and D765 from firmware version 10.1.27.0 onwards.
They ensure perfect readability of function key labels, even on phones with smaller display sizes.

There are two different states of displaying Smart Label:

  • Short and
  • Full.

And of course you can set it Off.

1) Short Mode

The Short Mode is the default mode, in which the labels are kept short, and the view of the main screen is left free.

2) Full Mode

The Full Mode expands the labels to full width.

3) Off Mode

If Smart Labels mode is set to Off, the full screen is visible, and labels are only shown when triggered by an action.

The switch between one state and another can be triggered by the built-in proximity sensor (D735) and/or the page key.

Trigger

There are several triggers for changing the state of the Smart Labels on D735/D335:

    • the proximity sensor
    • Short-press Page key
    • Long-press Page key
    • Short press P8 key
    • Long press P8 key

On D717, the triggers can be:

  • Short-press P3 key
  • Long-press P3 key

On D765, the triggers can be:

  • Short-press P4 key
  • Long-press P4 key

Also, on all smart label enabled devices, the smart label can be trigger by key event - Alternate feature key.

The triggers can be configured in the web interface (WUI) or on the phone menu itself
(Settings menu → Preferences → Function Keys → SmartLabel Keys).

WUI: Functions Keys → Smart Label

The behaviour of the Smart Labels in "Idle Screen", "Call Screen" and "other Screens" can be configured in the WUI
as well as the time span it takes the phone to return to default display mode.

Label Display Type and Text

The label display type can also be defined. There are three different kinds available:

  • Text

  • Icon

  • Text and Icon

If you have set either Text or Icon and Text, you will need to provide a Short Label to the key.

Return to label page 1 after (secs.):
(label_scroll_timeout)
The phone will return from any of the higher self-labeling keys pages to page 1 this many seconds after the page button was last pressed. Setting this value to zero disables this behaviour.
The setting applies to models with a second display (D345, D385, D745, D785 - D785N) where it is effective on the second display only.
It also applies to models with SmartLabel depiction on the main display (D735).
