There are many ways of how a call can be transferred to another party. This article describes all of them, plus the possibilities of how to modify some behavior, to make a Snom phone "Your Snom phone". 



Blind Transfer

Transferring a call "blind" means that you as the transferring party do not check if the third party is available or not, before you transfer the call.

  1. A is in call with B.
  2. B presses Transfer Key, and dials number of C.
  3. C is ringing. B is back in idle state.

 


Attended Transfer

An "attended transfer" (also called "consultative transfer" or "warm transfer") means that the transferring party consults first with the transfer target if they are capable of taking the call. Only then, you will transfer the call. If not, you go back to the initial call. During the consultation, the first call will be put on hold.

  1. A is in call with B.
  2. B puts A on hold, and calls C.
  3. C answers the call.
  4. B transfers A to C.
  5. A and C are in the call. B is back in idle state.



Safe transfer

Safe transfer means that a transferred call will come back to the transferring party, when the transfer target is not answering. This helps to avoid that the transferred call ends up in an error for example if the transferred destination does not answer or is busy. 

Successful call transfer:

  1. A is in call with B.
  2. B presses Transfer Key, and dials number of C.
  3. C answers the call and is in call with A. 
  4. B gets disconnected and is back in idle state.

Unsuccessful safe call transfer:

  1. A is in call with B.
  2. B presses Transfer Key, and dials number of C.
  3. C is ringing. B displays "Call on Hold"
  4. C rejects the call/does not answer. 
  5. B can retrieve the call with A.

Safe transfer can be enabled in two ways :

  • for all calls, as default behavior for blind transfer, by setting  release_xferred_call_on to 200 (default is 180)
  • or per call, by choosing the "Safe Transfer" softkey while performing a blind transfer

 


Quick transfer

Quick transfer is a way to transfer calls very fast and efficiently with a single button press. This is especially useful for users who handle many incoming calls at the same time. 

For quick transfer, one of the following function key types can be used:

  • BLF
  • Extension
  • Speed dial

The transfer can be either blind or attended. The behaviour of the quick transfer can be configured by the setting parameter quick_transfer.

Blind quick transfer:

  1. A is in call with B.
  2. B presses the function key that has the designated target (C) for the transfer configured.
  3. C is ringing, B is back in idle state.

Attended quick transfer:

  1. A is in call with B.
  2. B presses the function key that has the designated target (C) for the transfer configured.
  3. C answers the call.
  4. B transfers A to C.
  5. A and C are in the call. B is back in idle state.


If the setting parameter quick_transfer has the value new_call, the behaviour of the function key (BLF. extension, speed dial) in an active call changes in the way, that the first call will be put on hold, and a second line is opened. 



Call Deflection

Call deflection is a call transfer while in Ringing State, i.e. the incoming call has not been answered. 

  • A calls B
  • B is ringing
  • B presses "TRANSFER KEY" and dials number of C
  • Call gets transferred to C. C is ringing. B is back in idle mode.
